About the name
Fred's Birthday Run got its name on November 26, 1983 when there was enough early-season snow for local skier Fred Staff to ski it on his birthday—Alta received more than 800 inches of snow that season. Wasatch legend Walt Shyluk coined the name never imagining it would stick. Some people mistakenly call this Fred's Birthday Chute. Others simply call all of the runs on this side of Big Water Peak, Big Water.
