Route Finding

The up tracks displayed in photographs and explained in the text are for popular routes, but there are many ways to reach these destinations. The routes in this guide tend to be the more commonly used and easily followed.

Most of the skin tracks in this guide will be set within a few days of a storm which will make route finding easier, but you'll undoubtedly encounter divergent skin tracks which can complicate route finding. Keep the big picture in mind and don't allow a multitude of skin tracks to spoil your day. If the track hasn't been put in yet, you'll need to use the photos, waypoints, topo maps, and a maybe a compass, to find your way.

The photos don't show every skin track, because tracks crisscross, get added, and get buried by snow and wind (and hey, you've got to do some of the route finding), but they do show many of the popular routes. You can recognize a main track by its trench-like trough with numerous pole marks on either side.
